எண்ணங்கள் ஆயிரம்...

இரட்டை வேடங்களில் எனக்கு நல்ல பெயர் பெற்றுத்தந்த படம் இது. மேல் சட்டையை மாற்றி ஏதோ வேற்று நபர் போல முக பாவனைகளில் எடுத்த போட்டோ . எனக்குப் மிகவும் பிடித்த ஒன்று. படமெடுத்தது, தியாகு, எனது மைத்துனர்.

சரித்திரத்தை இன்றைய தலைமுறையினர் அவ்வளவாக தெரிந்துகொள்வதில் நாட்டம் காட்டுவதில்லை. அதனால்தானோ என்னவோ, மலேசியாவில் நம்முடைய உண்மையான பங்களிப்பு இன்னும் இலைமறை காயாகவே இருந்து வருகிறது. 1830ம் ஆண்டு தொடங்கி  இது நாள் வரை  இந்நாட்டின் வளர்ச்சிப் பணிகளில் நம்முடைய தியாகம் சரிவர உணரப்படவில்லை.

என்னுடைய தந்தையார் சொல்லித் தெரிந்தவை சில. சயாம் ரயில் வண்டிப்பாதை அமைக்க நம்மவர்கள் சென்று திரும்பி வராதோர் எண்ணிக்கை அதிகம் என அடிக்கடி சொல்லுவார். மரண பயம் என்றால் அது அன்றைய ஜப்பானியர் ஆட்ச்சி காலத்தில் தான் என்பார். 

அவர்களை அடக்க பிரிட்டிஷாரால் கொண்டுவரப்பட்ட இந்திய ரானுவம் மோரிப் கடற்கடரையில் வந்திறங்கிய ஞாபகச் சின்னம் இது.

காலம் மாறலாம். . .

காலம் யாருக்காகவும் நிற்பதில்லை.  எங்கே என்ன நடந்தாலும் அது அதனுடைய செயல்களை செய்துகொண்டுதான் இருக்கிறது. 

60களிலிருந்த சூழ்நிலைகள் இப்போது இல்லை. எல்லாமும் நவீனமாகிவிட்டது போன்ற ஒரு பிரம்மை. உண்மையும் அதுதான். எல்லாமும் வித்தியாசமாக வேறுவிதமாக ஆகிவிட்டன.

மாற்றம் ஒன்றே மாறாதது என சான்றோரின் சொல் எவ்வளவு நியாயமானது.

சில தானாக மாறுகின்றன. சில மாற்றப்படுகின்றன. சிலர் அவர்களாகவே மாறுகின்றனர், சிலர் கட்டாயமாக மாற்றப்படுகின்றனர்.

சந்தர்ப்ப சூழ்நிலைகளும் தேவைகளும் தான்  மாற்றத்திற்கு பிரதானமான ஒன்றாக அமைகின்றது. ஆனால் இந்த மாற்றங்களும் நிரந்தரமல்ல... என்றேனும் ஒரு நாள் இவைகளும் மாறும்.

காலம் மாறலாம், நமது கலாச்சாரம் திசைமாறிச் செல்லாமல் பார்த்துக் கொள்வது நமது கடமையாகும்.

ரோமுக்கு அப்பால்...

ஆயிரக்கணக்கிலான தரமான எழுத்தாளர்களை தன்னகத்தே கொண்டது தமிழ்மொழி.  தமிழில் மட்டுமல்லாது பிற மொழிகளில் உள்ள சிறந்த படைப்புக்களையும் அவர்கள் தங்களின் மொழி மாற்றுத்திறமையால் நமக்களித்துச் சென்றுள்ளனர்.

குறிப்பிட்ட சில மணி நேரங்களுக்கு மட்டும் ஒலியேற்றப்பட்ட தமிழ் வானொலி மற்றும் தொலைக்காட்ச்சி நிகழ்ச்சிகளுக்கு மத்தியில, 1970ம் ஆண்டுகளின் துவக்கத்தில்  நான் படித்த ஒரு ஆங்கில நவீனத்தின் தமிழாக்கம்தான் இந்த "ரோமுக்கு அப்பால்".

'பிளின்ட்' அல்லது 'போண்ட் 007' போன்ற துப்பறியும் கதாநாயகனைப் போல படிக்கப் படிக்க சுவாரஸ்யமான ஒரு நாவல் இது.  படித்து முடிந்ததும் ஏதோ ஒரு நல்ல விறு விறுப்பான  ஆங்கில திரைப்படத்தினைப் பார்த்தது போன்று இருந்தது.

'லாமிட்டர்'  என்னும் அமெரிக்க கதாநாயகனின் சாகசங்களை திறம்பட வெளிப்படுத்தியிருந்தார் கதாசிரியர் ஹெலன் மாக் இன்னெஸ்.

இதை தமிழில் தந்தது, அன்றைய நாட்களில் துப்பறியும் தொடர்கதைகளுக்கும், மந்திர மாய பேய்க்கதைகளுக்கும் பெயர்பெற்ற "மாயாவி".  1958ல் ஆங்கிலத்தில் அச்சிடப்பட்டு 1959ல் தமிழில் "டப்" செய்யப்பட்ட தரமான எழுத்தோவியம்.

அச்சிட்டோர், " தி ராயல் பிரிண்டிங் வெர்க்ஸ். மவுண்ட் ரோடு, சென்னை 2.  400 பக்கங்களைக் கொண்ட இப்புத்தகம் அன்றைய தினம் ஒரு ரூபாய்க்கு விற்கப்பட்டது.

Floria 2011. . . part 1

I have uploaded some of the Floria 2011 photos of Flower and Garden show held at Precint 2 last year for those who have missed the opportunity to see them live back then. For last year, the theme was "roses forever..." and in 2010, it was " heliconia special ".

It was a wonderful experience looking at those lovely flowers and plants in a same place in big quantities.  The colours, shapes and sizes were so unique....and captivating the visitors that the visitors were going again and again to admire the amazing show during the two weeks. 

My wife and I were there on the second day morning of the show and had ample time to enjoy the great arrangement of the flower plants. However, when we went there again for the second and third time, we were not that lucky for the fact that by then people from all over Malaysia had started flocking the place and we had to wait for our turn to get into some halls to see foreign countries' arrangements.

It was more of a festive atmosphere than a flower show. Some families came prepared and set up camping like floormats to stay for a day.

One sad thing though was the lack of interest among our Indians. They like flowers and gardens, no doubt about that....but to come to the show and participate, they hesitate.

Hope more Indians turn up and enjoy the show from so many other countries and our own Malaysia  this time around. And please come with your digicams as those snaps you are going to take will be appreciated by your family and friends who are unable to make it.
